A LaHarpe man suffered serious injuries in an ATV in rural Bourbon County on Saturday night.
52-year-old Patrick Long was a passenger on a Polaris ATV that was traveling on 90th Street between US-65 and the Little Osage River around 6pm on Saturday. The driver of the ATV 52-year-old Michael Hawley of Fort Scott drove off the roadway and onto the river bank. When he tried to drive up the embankment, the vehicle overturned backwards and then rolled. Long was taken to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Hawley suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Freeman Fort Scott Hospital.
Neither man was wearing safety gear when the accident occurred.
