Two State Police Chase Leads to Arrest

A police chase that began in Kansas ends in Missouri with the arrest of a suspect.

The incident began yesterday afternoon in Galena when police revived reports of a vehicle driving erratically. An officer located the vehicle and observed it run a stop sign. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leaving the city and headed for rural Cherokee County. Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office joined the pursuit as the driver continued to drive erratically by passing other cars on the shoulder. At one point, the suspect attempted to hit a Cherokee County Sheriff's vehicle head-on.

The driver eventually crossed the state line into Missouri and entered the Joplin city limits, where a tactical vehicle intervention brought the chase to an end.

The driver – identified as Walter Whitlow of Joplin – was taken into custody and transported to the Joplin City Jail. Whitlow will also face charges in Cherokee County for actions that occurred in Kansas.
