Governor Laura Kelly Kicks Off "The People's Budget" Tour Tonight in Salina

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly will make the first stop on her listening tour tonight in Salina.

Kelly will be joined by State Director of Budget Adam Profitt at Salina South High School tonight at 6pm to launch the Governor's state-wide listening tour called “The People's Budget.” Both Kelly and Profitt will make brief remarks this evening and then participate in a townhall meeting with citizens in order to hear input regarding budget priorities ahead of the 2026 legislative session.

Kelly will make a total of eight tour stops in communities around the state between now and November 12. The Kansas Legislature will convene for its 2026 session on January 12 and Kelly plans to propose a budget to state law makers at that time. Her priorities include investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and public safety. This past year, lawmakers passed a budget in April that Kelly calls financially reckless, stating that the budget created by the state Legislature is projected to have Kansas spend $300 to $700 million more than it receives each year for the foreseeable future.

Kelly's budget tour will visit Hays, Garden City, Kansas City, Leawood, Emporia, and Wichita. She will make a stop in southeast Kansas on November 10 in Pittsburg.
