Homelessness, Taxes Top Agenda for Nowata City Commission

The issues of homelessness and taxes top the discussion at this week's Nowata City Commission meeting.

Nowata Police Chief Mike McElhaney appeared before the commission to discuss the issue of homelessness. McElhaney says there are two kinds of people living without homes in Nowata County.

McElhaney gave his thoughts during his report from the Nowata Police Department. Commissioners also heard from the Nowata Fire Department. In other business, commissioners also approved a measure that would allow the county use tax to automatically change with the sales tax. City Attorney John Heskett says the process needed clarification.

The council also approved a resolution for a lease-purchase agreement for a Freight liner fire truck.
