Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond orders an investigative audit of the State Department of Education.
The order comes on the heels of the recent resignation of State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters. In a letter to Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector Cindy Byrd, Drummond cited concerns raised by current and former Department of Education staff regarding spending practices under Walters' leadership. Drummond stated what he called Walters' mishandling of tax dollars and allegations of misspending as his reasons for ordering the audit.
The Attorney General stated that he expects prompt and thorough attention to the matter.
