The passing of a 15-year-old Coffeyville girl leads to murder charges for the driver involved in the crash that caused her injuries.
Serafina O'Connell was a passenger in an SUV involved in a crash at 8th and Patterson in Coffeyville on Friday afternoon. The SUV was struck broadside by a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Tenisha Mayberry of Blue Springs, MO. Mayberry and her passenger 19-year-old Cortez Wasson Jr. were allegedly in the act of fleeing from police when the accident occurred. O'Connell was seriously injured in the crash and taken to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition. She succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.
Due to the passing of the victim, charges against Mayberry have been upgraded to first-degree murder in the commission of a felony under Kansas law. She also faces charges of knowingly causing great bodily harm, and fleeing law enforcement by engaging in reckless driving. Wasson is charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The pair also face additional charges in Oklahoma.
