A Derby High School teacher has been suspended indefinitely following an arrest on child misconduct and several drug charges.
Sedgwick County Jail records show 29-year old Caleb Thornton was booked Monday evening on charges of child misconduct, child endangerment, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, and distribution or possission with intent to distribute marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.
The Derby school district confirmed Thornton is in his first year with the district, serving as an English, Reality 101, and homeroom teacher. Derby High Principal Gretchen Pontious says the district is working closely with the police during this time.
Thornton remained jailed without bond as of Tuesday morning.
