The Altamont City Council approves a measure that will allow the City to apply for a loan from the Kansas Water Pollution Control Revolving Fund in order to make much needed repairs to the city sewer system.
The decision was made at the council’s most recent meeting that included a public hearing on the issue. City Administrator LeeAnn Myers summarized the issue for the council, stating that a recent sewer study from Midwest Engineering showed the needed repairs to the system would cost just over $8 million, an amount Altamont cannot afford. Myers says the City has pursued grant funding, but a loan is what is likely needed to fix the aging system.
Few citizens attended the meeting, but one that did say she agrees that the repairs need to be made.
The Council went on to approve Resolution 313 to allow the City to apply for a low-interest loan through the state Revolving Fund.
