Old Iron Days Continues Educational Mission

Another Old Iron Days has come and gone in Fredonia.

Event Organizer Mike Olson estimates between 1,000 and 1,500 students had come by as of Friday afternoon and says the event went quite well. Several young people helped exhibit during the week, including High Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club Vice President Tatum Francis, who enjoys teaching visitors new things but also says he learns a lot at the show.

Blacksmith and Knife Maker Tyler Manahan was an exhibitor this year and says a modern TV show inspired him to learn the skill.

Manahan says blacksmithing was essential to the pioneer days and is still important today.

Old Iron Days is organized by the Wilson County Old Iron Club and takes place during the last full week of September.
