A chance to learn more about amateur radio will be offered next week at Independence Community College.
Ham radio—also known as amateur radio—provides an independent, non-commercial way to communicate when it matters most. Beyond being a hands-on hobby for licensed enthusiasts, ham radio enables technical experimentation, reliable connections during disasters when other networks fail, and a unique form of recreation and social connection. With no dependence on the internet or cellular service, it fosters practical skills, community, and a vital lifeline in critical situations.
Anyone interested in obtaining their entry-level technician license is encouraged to attend an upcoming workshop which will be offered nightly from 6 to 9 p.m. from September 30th through October 3rd.
The class will be led by instructor Alfred Crawshaw with help from members of the Independence Amateur Radio Club in Room AC200 at Independence Community College.
