The Independence City Commission will discuss a proposed $9 million dollar loan to pay for water line replacement at tonight's regular meeting.
The loan would be taken by the City from the Kansas Public Water Supply Loan Fund and would pay for the replacement of water lines in the City over a ten-year period. Federal regulations require the replacement of the lines based on the recent lead line survey. This is the last year of application for the Kansas Public Water Supply Loan fund that will receive federal funding to partially forgive the loan balance up to 51% for replacement of these water service lines. The City has the option of either a 20 or 30-year loan that would be paid for by future water rate increases. Citizens with comments or concerns on the issue are invtied to attend tonight's meeting and address the commission during the public hearing on the matter.
Also on tonight's agenda is a $25,000 addition to a C-D-B-G funded project at Riverside Park, the closure of downtown streets for Neewollah, and the placement of three charing units for electric vehicles on City poperty.
Tonight's meeting begins at 5:30 in the Commission Room at City Hall. The public is invited to attend in person or to view the meeting online via the City's website.
