Independence Man Arrested After Foot Pursuit

 

An Independence man is arrested after a short foot chase and is facing a number of charges.

 

At around 1:40am this morning, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s saw a man, identified as Cornelius Williams driving a white Chevy Impala westbound on Main Street in Independence. Dispatch confirmed that Williams’ driver’s license was revoked. The deputy initiated a traffic stop in the Lamplighter Hotel parking lot. Upon stopping, Williams exited the car and fled on foot. After a short pursuit, the deputy apprehended Williams.

 

During the chase, Williams discarded a bag containing a crystal-like substance. Deputies recovered the bag, which later tested positive as methamphetamine with a weight of over 45 grams. A handgun was also located in Williams’ possession. Williams was transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections, where he was booked on charges of distribution of methamphetamine, felony interference with a law enforcement officer, criminal possession of a firearm, defacing identification marks on a firearm, failure to use a turn signal, driving while revoked, habitual violator and no seatbelt.
