An Okmulgee who was injured in a dog attack two weeks ago suffers another setback.
31-year-old Janelle Scott was riding her bicycle to a friend's house along with her boyfriend when she was attacked by two pit bulls on September 17. Scott was severely injured in the initial attack that required doctors to amputate her right arm and one leg. Scott's condition deteriorated over the weekend, forcing the removal of her remaining two limbs, with more surgeries scheduled for this week. Relatives say Scott is trying to stay positive as she adjusts to her medical condition and hopes to be able to be eventually fitted for prosthetics.
Okmulgee Police are investigating the attack. Officers say one of the dogs was killed by Scott's boyfriend on the scene, but add that the second dog does not appear to have been involved. The owner of the animals was not home when the attacked occurred, but the person who was caring for them has been ticketed for violating animal codes.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Scott to help pay for medical bills.
