Montgomery County Public Works is moving forward on the widening of Peter Pan Road.
The second phase of the project will pick up at the intersection with Oak Street and proceed north. Public Works Director Brandon Beurskins told commissioners that the project is still in the engineering phase, so it’s unclear at this time how far north the work will go. It will, however, widen the road and replace a bridge in an effort to improve road safety. Beurskins says the county will likely need to acquire more right-of-way.
Commissioners approved the signing of a contract with the Kansas Department of Transportation on the project. Beurskins also informed commissioners about a low water crossing on County Road 6200 north of Cherryvale. The crossing has been closed for more than a year. Beurskins says the county has applied for state grant funding to pay for the project.
Beurskins also told the commission that the bridge over Pumpkin Creek near Coffeyville has been completed and reopened.
