A Lawrence woman is in custody after attempting to steal a Lawrence city bus.

Authorities say the woman forced her way into the driver’s seat at Central Transit Station near the University of Kansas campus around 11:15 on Friday morning and left the station in the vehicle. The woman traveled about three miles through city traffic, driving about 40mph until she was surrounded by police near 2nd and Michigan Streets. She surrendered without incident and was arrested.

No injuries were reported, but the suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
