The City of Howard marks the passing of an influential local man by proclaiming a day in his honor.
Saturday was officially proclaimed as Jerry Harrod Day in Howard. Harrod was a long time Howard resident and business owner, who started Harrod’s Blacksmith and Welding in 1970. He and his wife Mary and their son Gary expanded the business to serve the needs of the people of Howard and the surrounding communities and helped small farmers and large companies alike. Harrod also served as member of the Howard City Council and was also mayor. In a proclamation issued by current Howard Mayor Richard Clark, it was noted that Harrod provided many acts of service to the community and lived his life with an air of quiet generosity.
Harrod passed away on September 16 and his funeral services were held on Saturday. During his services, Howard businesses remained closed in honor of Mr. Harrod.
