A gas leak yesterday afternoon in the City of Andover prompts the evacuation of several businesses and homes.

East Central Avenue was shut down for several blocks after Andover City crews discovered natural gas coming from a large hole in the ground. Nearby homes and businesses were cleared as crews from the Kansas Gas Service were called to cut off gas to the area. The Andover School District was also notified.

City officials say the leak was caused by a work crew accidentally drilling into a 4-inch gas main. No injuries were reported.
