The Cowley County Sheriff's Office is investigating a recent string of cattle thefts in the northwest part of the county.
Authorities say the thefts began in early August and several ranchers near the City of Atlanta have been victims of the crime. Nearly 60 head of cattle valued at around $120,000 have been stolen during that time. Area ranchers worry that the current high cattle prices mean that more thefts may occur in the future.
Police are currently investigating two incidents that occurred on September 12th and 16th. Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact the Cowley County Sheriff's Office at 620-221-5444.
