Kansas Board of Regents Approves Appropriations Request fo Higher Ed System

The Kansas Board of Regents approves a $16.3 million unified appropriations request to help fund the state's higher education system.

The funding is earmarked for the 2027 fiscal year and is $4.6 million less than was apprpriated in 2026. The money is slated to provide continued funding for student success initiatives as well as new funding for future energy needs.

The money will also provide resources for the Kansas Blueprint for Literacy which focuses on practical approaches for postsecondary education to enhance educator tools for student success in the classroom. It will also go to support Washburn University's efforts in workforce development and to provide support for Kansans with existing college credits to return and complete their degrees.

The funding request was approved yesterday and will now be sent to Governor Laura Kelly's budget office and to legislative fiscal staff.
