Blight Issues Discussed at Cherryvale Meeting

Efforts continue to clean up blight in Cherryvale.

At Monday's City Council meeting, a citizen spoke during public comments about vehicles in yards and unkempt properties. City Council members agreed that they'd like to be able to do more to address the problem, but say the city has to follow the legal process, which can take a long time. Code Enforcement Officer Nichole Ecret says it's a real challenge to track down owners and deal with code violations.

In other business, the council approved increasing rental rates for the Logan Park Community Building, approved submitting a grant application for rehab of a sewer lift station and approved a contract for employment software at just over $6,500. Twenty percent of the cost of the software will be paid by the school district, which will utilize the program as well. The council also scheduled a comprehensive plan workshop for Monday, October 6th at 5 p.m.
