The Caney City Council approves to exceed revenue neutral rate and approves the 2026 budget during last night's regular session meeting.
The mil levy was set at 56 mils, up from 46.784 in the current budget. The 2026 budget was approved at close to $6.95 million.
After an executive session, Mayor Josh Elliott announced the agreement to sell Caney Grocery to Hans Retail Caney, based out of Pittsburg.
Of the $300,000, $80,000 will be in down payment form, with the rest of the deal paid out in two years with 4.5% interest. Also in the agreement is a deal to keep the store open for a minimum of five years.
Caney Grocery has a debt of $750,000, but Elliott says the goal is to pay off the rest of the debt without using any money from residents.
The council also approved to move forward toward pursuing a low interest loan of just over $2-millon for the water connection with the city of Coffeyville.
