A camper fire on the highway causes a road closure yesterday in southwest Kansas.

 

The Kansas Highway Patrol says US-54 was closed briefly just east of the City of Plains or about 23 miles northeast of Liberal. Witnesses say the propane tanks on the camper exploded, causing the blaze. The goose neck trailer was totally engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived on the scene. The camper was a total loss, but no injuries were reported.

 

US-54 was reopened after crews cleared the scene.
