LCC Celebrates Founders Day

Labette Community College in Parsons celebrates its founding.

This past weekend marked the 3rd Annual Founders Day celebration for the college. The school opened in 1923, as Parsons Junior College, by founder Rees Hughes. The school was originally part of the Parsons Public School system and was housed in the top floor of Parsons High School. Director of the LCC Foundation Lindi Forbes says the celebration pay tribute to the past while looking forward to the future.

The weekend ceremony was held at the Cardinal Event Center on the LCC Campus and included the honoring of the oldest known living graduate of the school Kenny Ervin on his 100th birthday. The school changed its name to Labette Community Junior College in 1966 and finally to LCC in 1979.
