The City of Neodesha is looking for compromise with the Fire/EMS Department when it comes to issues of scheduling and staffing.
The Neodesha Fire Department has been understaffed for several months, placing extra hours on personnel while costing the City in overtime hours. The Neodesha City Commission has been looking for a solution to the problem that would keep the department fully staffed while not placing a heavier burden on taxpayers. City Manager Brogan Jones says the City has two options.
Mayor Devin Johnson says he wants what's best for the city and for the firefighters.
A change in scheduling would reduce overtime costs to the City by about $50,000 over a two month period. Commissioner Ed Truelove adds that it's really a matter of finances.
The two groups came to a temporary agreement that is expected to receive official approval at the September 24th meeting.
