The Independence City Commission votes to approve the 2026 budget and to exceed the revenue neutral rate.

At the September 11 meeting, Independence Finance Director Lacey Lies told commissioners that Montgomery County had set the City's revenue neutral rate at 50,643 mills. Lies says the 2026 budget will exceed that rate.

 

Commissioners unanimously approved the rate increase and the 2026 budget. Lies also reported on the City's most recent sales tax receipts. She says the numbers are trending in the right direction.

 

In other business, commissioners also approved $135,000 for the purchase of a new backhoe for the water and sewer department.
