Animals With Our Love in Independence receives funding for a “no-cost” spay and neuter program.

AWOL has been awarded funding through the Kansas Department of Agriculture Cost Share Assistance Program through the end of October. The Kansas Department of Agriculture program awards up to $4000 of funds with a 25% match required from AWOL. Funds recently received through Independence Area Community Chest will be used to provide the match, allowing lower income Montgomery County residents to receive the spay/neuter service at no cost.

AWOL will begin taking applications immediately, and all services must be completed before October 31, 2025. Anyone in Montgomery County who needs financial help to get an animal spay or neutered should send an email to AWOL at awolhumane@gmail.com, call 620-331-7931, or message through AWOL’s Facebook page. All applications will be considered based on financial need and on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited number of spots available.
