Governor Kelly Issues Disaster Emergency Following Heavy Rains

 

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issues a verbal state of disaster emergency proclamation after heavy rains soak parts of in north central and south central Kansas on Monday.

 

Kelly issued the proclamation yesterday morning after nearly seven inches of rain fell in the Salina area and between 3 and 6 inches is other counties in the area. The declaration allows resources to be used to provide state assistance. The Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson closed all of its on-site parking lots due to flooding yesterday as well.

 

Additionally, the Kansas Department of Emergency Management partially activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Topeka to monitor flood activity, assist counties with their potential needs, and coordinate state resources.
