Cherryvale to See Slight Increase in Mill Levy

The Cherryvale City Council Votes to exceed the revenue-neutral rate for the 2026 budget, although the increase will be less than expected.

Revenue neutral for the Cherryvale budget is just over 46.3 mills. The published rate for the planned increase was 53 mills, but after budget workshops with council members, that number was reduced to 49.3 mills, meaning there will be a three mill increase in the coming year's budget.

City Administrator Michael Hall says the increase is needed to support and improve existing city services.

One mill is equivalent to one dollar for every thousand dollars of assessed property value.

The increase passed on a 3-1 vote, with Council Member Steve Strickland voting no. There were no comments on the budget from the public during the open forum.

In other business, the council approved starting the bid process for electrical upgrades at the fire department.
