An inmate who walked away from a northeastern Oklahoma correctional facility on Saturday night is back in custody.
Officials at the Northeast Oklahoma Corrections Center in Vinita say 33-year-old James Howell left the facility just after 9pm on Saturday night. Howell escaped on foot but was quickly apprehended. Authorities say he was taken into custody by the officers from the Vinita Police Department just after 8 a.m. yesterday.
Howell was serving a 5-year sentence for False Declaration of Ownership in Pawn Shop in Jackson County in southwestern Oklahoma. Northeast Oklahoma Community Corrections Center is a minimum security prison that houses male offenders who are incarcerated for non-violent crimes.
