Parsons Police Arrest Suspect Following Reported Sexual Assault

A Parsons man is arrested on sexual assault charges.

The Parsons Police Department received a report from a female victim saying that she had been sexually assaulted. Two search warrants were issued, the first authorized the search of the identified suspect, Kenneth Akkerman's, residence, while the second allowed for the collection of DNA evidence from Akkerman. PPD officers executed the first search warrant and collected evidence from the residence.

Akkerman was transported to PPD, where he agreed to an interview and was taken into custody on allegations of rape. Later that evening, the second search warrant was executed, authorizing the collection of DNA samples from Akkerman. The case remains under active investigation. Akerman remains in custody and his bond was set at $1,000,000 in this case for two counts of rape and one count of aggravated criminal sodomy.

Akkerman has a long history of criminal activity and is a registered sex offender stemming from a 2007 conviction in Montgomery County for electronic solicitation of a child. He was also convicted in Labette County in 2021 for aggravated battery.
