The Independence City Commission gives its approval to several Public Works initiatives at this week's meeting.
City Engineer John Garris requested Commissioner approval for two projects involving the City's water infrastructure. The first was for routine maintenance of the Laurel Street Water Tower. Garris says the preventative maintenance costs the City less in the long run.
Commissioners also approved $42,000 to replace a pump at the city water plant. Garris says that, while it is not an emergency, the replacement is needed to keep the water flowing.
In other Public Works announcements at last night's meeting, Garris reported that repairs to an air conditioning unit at Memorial Hall would cost $4,000 instead of the projected $48,000 replacement cost.
