The Neodesha City Commission approves a resolution to exceed the revenue-neutral rate for 2026.

 

The approved budget will increase the mils from 61.34 to 65.64, an overall increase of about 4 mils. Several members of the Neodesha Fire Department were at the meeting to address issues of funding and staffing for Fire and EMS services. Mayor Devin Johnson says the City has functioned adequately with staffing at current levels.

 

During a lengthy public comment period, firefighters demanded answers from the commission. Commissioner Ed Truelove says, the commission just does not have those answers at this time.

 

City Manager Brogan Jones and Commissioner Duane Banzet have met previously with the Fire Department to discuss the issue. One firefighter asks why Mayor Johnson and Commissioner Truelove have not done the same.

 

The final vote was unanimous to approve the budget at the increased mil rate. Commissioners told the firefighters that a more complete discussion on department funding, scheduling, and staffing would occur in the coming weeks.
