Multiple Flood Warnings Issued Ahead of Expected Rain

Minor flooding is expected as The National Weather Service in Wichita KS has issued a Flood

Warning for the following rivers in the immediate KGGF listening area:

 

Verdigris River at Altoona affecting Wilson County.

Fall River at Fredonia affecting Wilson County.

Verdigris River at Independence affecting Montgomery and Wilson Counties.

Neosho River near Chanute affecting Neosho and Allen Counties.

Verdigris River near Lenapah affecting Nowata County.

 

The Verdigris River at Altoona is expected to crest at 19.6 feet, which is just above the flood stage of 19 feet.  Expect flooding of agricultural fields and the gravel road near the river bridge off of Highway 47.

 

In Independence, the Verdigris is expected to rise above flood stage of 30 feet Friday Morning and crest at 34.8 feet early Friday afternoon.  This should be below the point at 36 feet where some flooding of low-lying areas and bottom land can be expected.  The river should fall below flood stage late Friday evening.

 

Fall River at Fredonia is expected to rise above flood stage late tomorrow morning to a crest of 24.8 feet tomorrow evening, above flood stage of 17 feet.  Minor flooding is expected. It will then fall below flood stage Friday morning.

 

In Oklahoma, the Verdigris near Lenapah will reach flood stage of 30 feet with minor flooding expected.

The National Weather Service in Wichita KS has issued a Flood Warning for the Neosho River near Chanute affecting Neosho and Allen Counties.

 

The warning will be in effect from tomorrow evening to Friday evening.  The river is expected to rise above flood stage late tomorrow evening to a crest of 23.8 feet early Friday morning. It will then fall below flood stage Friday morning.  Flood stage is 23 feet.  At flood stage, the right bank overflows and agricultural flooding can be expected.
