A fifth Arkansas school district is added to a lawsuit filed in June that would block a law requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in public school classrooms.
The Conway School District, located northwest of Little Rock, has joined districts from Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville, and Siloam Springs in opposition to the measure that went into effect on August 5. A decision from a U.S. District Judge issued on August 4 blocked the measure, calling it plainly unconstitutional. However, that ruling only affected schools in the original four northwest Arkansas districts. If the addition of the Conway district to the lawsuit is approved, any displays of the Ten Commandments currently displayed in district classrooms would be required to be taken down.
