The fallout over the recent multiple firings and resignations of police officers in the City of Okemah, OK, continues.
Residents turned up in force at this week's city council meeting in the small town located about 17 miles west of Henryetta to protest the firing of one of the City's police officers and the Chief of Police.
The issue began when Officer Trey Jordan responded to a call of two people trespassing. One of the suspects was an Okemah City Code Enforcement employee, who is also the sister of City Manager Kristy Lesly. Following the call, Officer Jordan was fired along with Jordan's wife, who served as an Okemah School Resource Officer. Police Chief Patrick Williams was also fired. Three other police officers then resigned. City Manager Lesly has stated that there were other complaints about Officer Jordan that led to his termination.
State Attorney General Gentner Drummond has sent state agents to the city to help with law enforcement duties until more officers can be hired. The officers who were fired from their jobs have said they do plan to file a lawsuit against the city.
