Walmart Recalls Great Value Shrimp Sold in OK & MO

Walmart is recalling some packages of frozen shrimp sold under the Great Value label after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns of the risk of radioactive contamination.

The Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp was sold at Walmart locations in several states including Oklahoma and Missouri. The product was important by an Indonesian Company and may be contaminated with a radioactive isotope known as Cesium-137. The element is produced by nuclear fission and is used in nuclear reactors and weapons as well as some medical devices.

The product should not be consumed and should be thrown away. Customers can contact the store where they purchased the product to receive a refund.

The lots are:

  1. Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005540-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027

  2. Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005538-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027

  3. Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005539-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027.

The FDA says no products have yet tested positive for the isotope, but that the agency issued the warning after a single shipment from the importer tested positive for the substance.
