Altamont Considers $8 Million Loan

The City of Altamont is considering taking out a long-term loan to pay for some much needed repairs to their sewer system.

At the most recent meeting of the Altamont City Council, Austin Masters with the Midwest Assistance Program was on hand to provide input on the City's loan application for the Kansas Water Pollution Control Revolving Fund. Masters says, if the city decides to apply for the $8 million dollar loan, it is likely they would be approved.

The funds would be used to replace the south and east lift stations in the city's sewer system. Mayor Richard Hayward says the system is in need of the repairs.

Altamont has until October 15 to submit the loan application. In other business, the City Council agreed to establish an endowed fund with the Parsons Area Community Foundation for parks and recreation and for city beautification.

An announcement was also made that the city plans to exceed the revenue neutral rate for 2026. A rate hearing was scheduled to occur at the August 28th council meeting.
