A USD 503 Parsons school bus driver is honored for bravery and heroic actions during a house fire.

 

Bus driver Amber Klonowski was honored last week for her heroic actions during a house fire that occurred in Parsons on June 5, 2024. Klonowski was awarded the Citizen Life-Saving Award from the Parsons Police Department for her actions in assisting the victims of the fire on that day.

 

The blaze claimed the lives of 33-year-old mother of four Krysten Vargas and her 18-month-old daughter. Three children and an adult male escaped the fire and were helped on the scene by Klonowski and other passers-by before emergency crews arrived at the home.

 

Klonowski was recognized by the community for her extraordinary courage and selfless actions.
