Suspect Sought in Fatal Wichita Hit-and-Run

Authorities in Sedgwick County are looking for a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a 14-year-old boy.

Police say a BMW traveling at a high rate of speed hit a power pole and a utility box at the intersection of Harry and Rock Road around 6:30 on Wednesday evening. The collision forced the pole to hit 14-year-old Jackson Nzabonimpa.

The 19-year-old driver fled the scene and was later treated for injuries at a local hospital. He has been identified as Gauge Brasher. Authorities believe he was driver impaired at the time of the accident. He is currently being sought as a suspect in the case.

About an hour before that accident, another fatal pedestrian accident happened at a Wichita-area truck stop. 47-year-old Travis Briscoe of Jenks, Oklahoma, was arrested in that accident that left a 57-year-old Georgia man dead. Police say Briscoe had been involved in an altercation with the victim. Briscoe has been charged with unintentional but reckless second-degree murder and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
