Dodge City Athlete Remains in Critical Condition

A Dodge City Community College cross-country runner remains in critical condition after she was found unconscious in a field on the school's campus late last week.

The woman has been identified by family and friends at Delia Montes. Montes was taken to a Dodge City hospital along with another student-athlete last Thursday. The other student was treated and released, while Montes was flown to a Wichita hospital for a higher level of care. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the incident, though it has not been confirmed that the students' illnesses were caused by the heat.

Dodge City Community College has released a statement saying that the school's athletic department abides by the Heat Policy put in place by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

Coffeyville Community College Athletic Director Bryce Saia says CCC and all other schools in the conference follow the same policy and take the health and safety of their student-athletes very seriously.
