The bond election for South Coffeyville Public Schools fails by just one vote.
263 residents of the SCPS school district voted in the election, with 157 voting in favor of the $1.2 million bond and 106 voting against it. In order to pass the bond needed a super majority or 60% of the vote. Despite more voting yes than no the bond fell just shy of the 60% at 59.7%. One more yes vote or one less no vote would have seen the bond passed.
Had it passed, SCPS would have used the money for repairs to the roof, windows, sidewalks and brick siding on school buildings. The HVAC system would have also been replaced. The final tally of the votes will be certified Friday.
