The search for the suspect in a shooting at a Wichita hospital ends with the death of the alleged gunman.
Police responded yesterday afternoon to a tip that 47-year-old Robert Shoenberger Jr was inside an apartment complex in the north-central part of the city. Schoenberger was wanted in connection to the fatal shooting of a woman outside Wichita's Wesley Medical Center on Monday. Multiple attempts were made by police and the crisis negotiation team to convince the suspect to surrender peacefully, but those attempts proved unsuccessful. Chemical ammunition was deployed inside the apartment and, when that failed, a drone was sent into the building. Schoenberger was then found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say Schoenberger was on parole for an attempted indecent solicitation of a 14-year-old girl when he removed his ankle monitor, leading to the shooting on Monday. The victim in the shooting has been identified as Terri Stidham, a 46-year-old mother of six.
