Arrest Made in Neosho County Homicide

Authorities in Neosho County make an arrest in a weekend homicide in the City of Stark.

Neosho County Sheriff's Deputies were called to a residence at 307 South Washington Street in Stark – located about 15 miles east of Chanute – just before 9pm on Saturday night. Upon arrival, deputies discovered blood on the front porch of the house and then found the victim, identified as 65-year-old Scott Stevens of Stark. An investigation led to the identification of 45-year-old Luke Shepard of Uniontown as a suspect in the case. Shepard had fled the scene and was later arrested at his home by Bourbon County Sheriff's Deputies without incident.

Shepard is currently being held in the Neosho County Jail in Erie on a charge of first-degree murder.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist and the investigation remains ongoing.
