Flags across the State of Kansas will be at half-staff today in honor of a Wyandotte County Sheriff's Deputy killed in the line of duty.
Governor Laura Kelly has directed that flags be flown at half-staff on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities from sunup to sundown today in honor of Wyandotte County Deputy Elijah Ming. 34-year-old Ming was shot and killed on July 26th as he and officers of the Kansas City Police Department provided assistance to a woman as she moved out of her residence. The woman had been threatened with a gun by a male suspect who remained inside the home. The suspect then opened fire from inside the house, striking Deputy Ming. Deputy Ming is survived by his wife.
The suspect in Ming's death is in custody and has been charged with capital murder.
Services honoring Deputy Ming will also be held today.
