Crews Respond to Building Fire in Chetopa

Crews from multiple agencies respond to a structure fire in Chetopa.

Around 7:30 Thursday night, fire crews were called to the scene at 403 Locust Street to a former church building. Upon arrival, firefighters found visible smoke and flames coming from the building. After going quickly to work, firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control. The extreme heat of the evening led to several first responders requiring treatment for heat exposure. However, no serious injuries were reported.

Chetopa Fire-Rescue responded to the call with mutual aid from Oswego Fire, Columbus Fire-Rescue, Welch Fire, Edna Fire, and Bartlett Fire. The Chetoipa Police Department and Labette Health EMS were also on the scene.
