Authorities in Greenwood County identify the victim of a weekend drowning.

 

The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Alexzander Martin of Emporia drowned Saturday at the Madison City Lake just south of the City of Madison. Deputies were called to the lake located about 20 miles north of Eureka around 4:30 on Saturday afternoon. Witnesses reported a man in the water, yelling for help. The man then went under the water and did not resurface.

 

Emergency crews responded to the scene but were unable to save Martin. His body was recovered from the water after a four-hour search.

 

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
