Tax revenues in Kansas for the month of July come in above estimates.
The State of Kansas ended the month with total tax collections of just over $670 million. Those totals are $21 million or 3.3% above estimates and are about 1.5% higher than a year ago. Individual income tax receipts were 10% above estimates, while corporate tax income fell well short of the anticipated numbers. Those totals were $18.5 million and 47% below the estimate. Retail sales were also slightly below last year's numbers.
Governor Laura Kelly stated that while she was pleased by the numbers, she remains concerned about the long-term fiscal health of the state. Kelly stated that lawmakers must continue to exert financial responsibility in order to keep state finances out of the red.
