Montgomery County Considers Options on Road Project Near Bartlett Plant

The Montgomery County Commission is considering its options for a major road construction project planned near the Bartlett soybean plant.

The County applied for a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation that would have covered a large portion of the $15 million project. However, the grant application was denied. Commissioner Robert Bever asks if there is a Plan B for the project.

The project would have connected County 5300 to the US-160 right-of-way and added a road to connect to County Road 4400. Public Works Director Brandson Beurskins says the current option is to improve County Road 5300 while continuing to search for grant funding.

County Administrator Jonathan Booe told the commission that they plan to reapply for federal funding in January, but even if that money is awarded, work on the project would not begin until 2027.
