KDHE Advisory Lifted for Thayer Old City Lake

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has lifted the blue-green algae watch issued last month for the Thayer Old City Lake.

The original advisory was issued due to the possibility of a harmful algae bloom in the water. KDHE investigates publicly accessible bodies of water for blue-green algae when the agency receives reports of potential algae blooms in Kansas lakes. Based on credible field observation and sampling results, KDHE reports on potentially harmful conditions.

The advisory was lifted because cell densities and toxin concentrations in the water of Thayer Old City Lake have dissipated below Watch level thresholds. The water is now considered safe for recreational activities.
