Smoke From Canadian Wildfires Reaches SEK

The Kansas Department of Health and Enviornment is issuing an air quality health advisory for the state due to light northeast to east winds bringing Canadian wildfire smoke into the state, particularly central and eastern Kansas.

These conditions are likely to persist today and tomorrow. The Air Quality Index will likely range from moderate to unhealthy at times.

As of 9:45 p.m., air quality in Chanute was listed as unhealthy, while quality in Copan was listed as unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Steps to protect your health on days when smoke is present in your community include limiting or avoiding strenuous outdoor exercise, keeping doors and windows closed and running air conditioners with filters and staying hydrated.  Those vulnerable to air quality issues should remain indoors.

You can view the current air quality for your area on https://fire.airnow.gov.
